The Midi Dress
The Midi Dress is where the world of Make Mine Black begins for many women.
Bold enough to mean something.
Considered enough to reach for again and again.
Cut from 100% burnt orange linen, the colour announces itself without apology, warm, alive and entirely deliberate.
This is not a cautious choice.
It is the right one.
The architecture begins with one of Foundation 5's defining codes: a precise 2cm border of 100% obsidian black linen traces the neckline, frames the empire seam at the front and back, then turns and travels vertically down the centre back from empire to hem.
The YKK invisible zip sits quietly within this line.
Burnt orange and obsidian.
The same relationship as the Maxi Dress; the colours simply swap dominance.
A house code, stated clearly from the beginning.
The balloon sleeves are lined with domette for structure and volume, finished with elastic at the cuff and dropping organically from an empire opening that extends towards the sleeve.
They create movement without losing the architectural quality of the silhouette.
Below the empire, the Foundation Line takes over.
The side seams follow the body's contour from just above the empire through the waist and finish just above the hip, allowing the dress to acknowledge the body without constraining it.
Within this uninterrupted line sits the discreet 1cm welt pocket.
The pocket is hidden inside the architecture rather than added onto it.
Nothing interrupts the silhouette.
The line simply continues to do its work.
Below the hip, the silhouette opens.
The side seams release into a deliberate side slit, creating a peek-a-boo moment with every step, a glimpse of the leg as the wearer moves.
The slit is not an afterthought.
It is the release.
The moment where the structure gives way to movement.
The dress falls just below the knee, a length that is neither safe nor excessive.
Exactly where it should be.
The upper body is fully lined in 100% obsidian black linen, creating a clean internal finish against the burnt orange shell.
This is a dress designed to hold its shape, follow the body and then let it move.
